Shares in Shanghai fell on Friday, while Chinese blue chips made small gains as China and the United States prepared for fresh trade talks next week, but gave little hint as to when exactly negotiators will meet face-to-face. At the midday break, the Shanghai Composite index was down 0.2% at 2,999.92 and up 0.7% for the week, while the blue-chip CSI300 index was up 0.1% on the day and 1.3% higher on a weekly basis. The smaller Shenzhen index was up 0.1% and the start-up board ChiNext Composite index was higher by 0.3%. Top representatives of the United States and China are organizing a resumption of talks for next week to try to resolve a year-long trade war between the world’s two largest economies, Trump administration officials.
